A Tree Falls in the Hudson Valley

Ashes are among the first trees to change color, the Cary Institute noted on its website back in 2010. Their subtle tones set off the deep red creepers in their branches. Ash trees also are valuable as timber — most famously for baseball bats, but also for flooring and many other uses — and are commonly planted as shade trees. As you drive around the Hudson Valley, try to get a look at the dusky yellows and purples of the ash trees, because they won't be around much longer.

The culprit: the careless introduction of the emerald ash borer.

We have more than 40 ash trees we’re sadly having to say goodbye to, both to protect the rest of the trees and start anew.
